VR refers to Virtual Reality. It is a technology which enhances a three dimensional environment interacted physically using some sort of special glasses (VR glasses) or maybe some gloves with special sensors. In other words, it generates realistic sounds, images etc in a three dimensional virtual environment. To put together, it creates or help us access a realistic world in a virtual environment.

VR Technology

The most common form of virtual reality technology used nowadays is the HMD which refers to Head Mounted Display. It comes in special type of glasses wore by the individuals to create a virtual three dimensional environment. One wearing those glasses would feel as if he/she is in the real world which is nothing but a simulation created by the computer to create a realistic environment. Technology such as Google Cardboard, Oculus, Samsung GearVR etc has emerged into the world of Virtual technology and are leading their way up in this field.

Major Players in the world of Virtual Reality

Oculus VR is a VR technology founded by Palmer Luckey in June 2012 in Irvine, Califonia. It is a manufacturer of VR hardware and software utilities. It is now the leading brand for VR hardware for video games. One of  the flagship product of Oculus VR technology is the Oculus Rift.

Google has also entered into the industry of VR technology with its product Google Cardboard. It is basically a headmount wherein a smartphone can be fitted to experience the technology of virtual reality. It is built out of simple, low cost components. The price is quite reasonable and affordable to common people and the virtual reality experience is not too bad for us to enjoy. Google also developed a software known as “Cardboard” which splits the smartphone display into two identical halves which in turn, enables us to enter into the world of virtual reality.

There is also a touch pad and a back button on the side of the device which helps in controlling the virtual reality.

Even Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg purchased Oculus VR for $2 billion on March 25, 2014.  Facebook has also unveiled the new Oculus Go headset. It can function even without being plugged into the computer or paired with a phone.

Facebook has already more than 400 employees who focus solely on the virtual reality development. Facebook has also announced their new project “Santa Cruz“, the  newer VR headset with lot more newer features.

Mark Zuckerberg even presented a demo of Facebook with virtual reality technology.

To be precise, VR has no future. Instead, “VR IS THE FUTURE“. Much of the attention surrounding virtual reality right now has to do mainly with how it will be used for gaming, film making, or other entertainment content.

VR offers the new way of seeing the world in a whole new perspective. Right now, virtual reality is limited to a user’s visual and auditory senses, but in the future this will likely be enhanced.

There is even a talk going on about using Nanotechnology in the the world of virtual reality.  It can allow us to push beyond the boundaries of the human body and enter into the digital world.

virtual reality will surely break all barriers between the virtual world and the physical world. At present VR is having a number of obstacles of which Cost is the most important to be noted. However, soon in the near future, this obstacle will also be gone as new and more affordable components will be used in the making of this amazing technology.

To conclude, virtual reality is the ultimate technology one could have ever imagined of. We wil enter into a whole new generation where PHYSICAL WORLD MEETS THE VIRTUAL WORLD. Who knows, one day maybe our brains will be uploaded into the virtual world and that would mean in simple words, “IMMORTALITY
